What does that mean? Well, right now for me it means how in the world are all these authors getting picked up by kindle scout? Right now, romance is hot, it is what is selling, so is erotica. You know what else is hot? Fanfiction. Ugh... not what I want to write, but when you have friends that are bringing in $1000 a month off fan fiction, it gives you a reason to pause and consider it. Many authors are writing fanfic, not because they want to but because it will draw attention to their other works once the fanfic is discovered. So to write it or not to write it... that is the question. In this cutthroat world of indies where you have to find a way to stand out, to get discovered, it is something we should all consider. Think it doesn't work? 50 Shades of Grey is the fanfiction of Twilight. Enough said.
